🎸 Background / History

The Rock Touring Kit with 10 microphones (Extreme SPL) was developed by DPA Microphones, a Danish manufacturer renowned for high-fidelity, durable, and transparent microphones. It was designed specifically for professional touring and live rock environments, where multiple instruments require close miking at very high sound pressure levels.

This kit is essentially an expanded version of the smaller 4-mic Rock Touring Kit, offering ten 4099 CORE Extreme SPL microphones with a wide range of instrument clips, cables, and adapters. It is intended for larger productions such as full rock bands, orchestras with amplified instruments, and festival stages where consistency and durability are critical.

At the heart of the kit are the 4099 CORE Extreme SPL microphones. Using CORE by DPA (and in some cases upgraded to CORE+) technology, these mics deliver:

Extended dynamic range

The ability to handle sound sources up to 152 dB SPL before clipping, making them suitable for drums, brass, electric guitar amps, and other high-volume instruments.

The Touring Kit concept was introduced by DPA to provide engineers with a ready-to-go road package: multiple microphones, robust mounting clips, extension cables, XLR adapters, and a protective Peli touring case. This ensures reliability under the stress of travel, frequent setup/teardown, and rough stage conditions.

According to DPA’s official product roadmap, the CORE+ Extreme SPL Rock Touring Kits began rolling out in late 2025, expanding availability for global touring artists, rental companies, and live sound engineers.
