Origins of the Nord Lead Series
Manufacturer: Clavia Digital Musical Instruments, Sweden.
The first Nord Lead was released in 1995 and became one of the earliest and most influential virtual analog synthesizers, designed to emulate classic analog synths while offering modern digital flexibility.
The Nord Lead line evolved through models like Lead 2, Lead 2X, Lead 3, each introducing new features such as more polyphony, additional filter types, advanced modulation, and more hands-on controls.
Launch of the Nord Lead 4
Year Released: Officially unveiled in 2013 at Musikmesse in Germany and shipped from May 2013.
Available in two versions: the Nord Lead 4 (49-key performance synthesizer) and the Nord Lead 4R (rack/module version).

Evolution Within the Nord Lead Family
The Nord Lead 3 (2001) had advanced features such as LED encoders, expanded modulation, and aftertouch, but was discontinued before the Lead 4.
The Lead 4 simplified the interface for cost-effectiveness while still offering deeper sound design tools and live-oriented functions.
It was followed by the Nord Lead A1 (2014), which introduced a new streamlined oscillator section and a more accessible programming style.
