Core Functions & 3 Modes

The heart of the Dark Star lies in its three distinct modes, which completely change the function of the CTRL 1 and CTRL 2 knobs, offering three unique reverb voices.

1. Pitch Mode:
   • What it does: This mode adds two pitch-shifted voices into the reverb trail, creating ethereal, synth-like, or organ-like textures.
   • CTRL 1: Blends in a +1 Octave up voice.
   • CTRL 2: Blends in a -1 Octave down voice.
2. Delay Mode:
   • What it does: Introduces a parallel delay that runs alongside the reverb, creating more complex and rhythmic ambient spaces.
   • CTRL 1: Controls the Delay Time.
   • CTRL 2: Controls the Delay Repeats/Feedback.
3. Crush Mode:
   • What it does: This mode adds a bit-crushed reverb voice, producing a charmingly degraded, lo-fi texture.
   • CTRL 1: Controls the amount of bit-crushing (the “grit” and digital artifacts).
   • CTRL 2: Acts as a filter, allowing you to blend between the crushed and un-crushed signals.

Controls & Features

• Main Knobs:
  • Mix: Adjusts the blend between your dry (unaffected) signal and the wet (effected) signal.
  • Reverb: Controls the decay time of the reverb. Turn it clockwise for longer, more expansive trails.
• Footswitches:
  • Bypass (Left Switch): Engages or disengages the effect. It can be set to momentary operation by holding the switch down while plugging in the power.
  • Hold (Right Switch): This is the signature feature. Press and hold this switch to sustain the current reverb note/chord indefinitely, creating a continuous pad. You can then play new lines over the sustained sound.
• Full Stereo I/O:
  • Features stereo inputs and outputs (via TRS or dual TS cables), allowing you to create truly immersive and wide stereo images.
• Expression/External Control:
  • An EXP jack allows you to connect an expression pedal for real-time control over parameters like CTRL 1, CTRL 2, or Reverb (assignable via an internal switch).
  • You can also connect an external footswitch to remotely trigger the Hold function.

Usage Ideas

• Creating Soundscapes: In Pitch mode, set Reverb and Mix high. Play a chord and use the Hold switch to sustain it as a background pad, then play a melody or lead line over the top.
• Adding Lo-Fi Texture: Use Crush mode with a subtle amount on CTRL 1 to add a bit of grit and character to your reverb tails, making your sound more interesting.
• Reverb with Delay: Delay mode gives you both a lush reverb and a delay in one pedal, perfect for adding depth and rhythmic movement to your playing.
