History of the PRS Custom 24 Piezo
Origins of the Custom 24

The PRS Custom 24 was the very first production model introduced by Paul Reed Smith in 1985. It featured a solid body design with a carved maple top, mahogany back and neck, a rosewood fingerboard with the iconic bird inlays, a 25” scale length, PRS tremolo, and a switching system that allowed various humbucker tonal options.

Development into Piezo

The Custom 24 Piezo was first introduced in 2014 and continues to be produced today. It is essentially the same as the Custom 24 but enhanced with a Piezo system (such as the LR Baggs Piezo), allowing players to achieve both electric and acoustic-style tones in one instrument.

Distinctive Features of the Piezo

This model comes with dual output jacks, enabling players to route magnetic humbuckers and Piezo signals separately to different amps or DIs, or blend them together via the onboard controls.

It also offers independent tone shaping—Master Volume for magnetic pickups and Piezo controls—so players can freely mix electric and acoustic voices.

Variants and Materials

The SE Custom 24 Semi-Hollow Piezo was later introduced, featuring a semi-hollow body that adds resonance and acoustic character to the electric tones.

The Core Custom 24 Piezo (USA-made) typically features 85/15 or DMO humbuckers along with high-end specifications such as premium finishes and dual-output functionality.
