History & Origins

Supro is a historic American amplifier and guitar brand, founded in 1935 by Valco. It gained recognition throughout the 1950s and ’60s for its distinctive sound, famously used on many classic recordings. After production ceased for decades, Supro was revived in 2013, blending vintage-inspired designs with modern innovations.

Robert Keeley, founder of Keeley Electronics (a well-known pedal manufacturer), collaborated with Supro to design an amp that serves as a “pedal platform”—built to work seamlessly with external effects. The goal was to preserve the natural tonal character of the amp while allowing delay, reverb, distortion, and modulation pedals to integrate cleanly into its circuitry.

The Keeley Custom 12 (1968RK Keeley Custom 12) was introduced as an upgraded model, following the success of the Keeley Custom 10 (1×10″) combo, which had become popular among players seeking a compact yet flexible tube amp.

Design Concept / Focus

Pedal-Friendly Platform → The preamp and EQ circuit are open and transparent, allowing gain or distortion pedals to shape the tone without losing the amp’s natural midrange presence.

Transparent FX Loop → Enables delay, reverb, and modulation pedals to be placed after the preamp and tube coloration, ensuring clarity without unwanted distortion or signal loss.

Class A Power Section → Driven by a Tung-Sol 6V6GT power tube, delivering dynamic response, rich midrange, and harmonically complex overtones with lively sustain.

Celestion G12M-65 Creamback Speaker → Known for its classic British voice, offering woody mid tones and articulate highs. It provides a vintage yet powerful sound, particularly suited for rock, blues, and indie styles.
