Quality tonewoods and the allure of figured maple
At its introduction in 1952 and for six years thereafter, the Les Paul was a bit like Ford’s Model T: you could have any color you wanted — as long as it was gold. Sunburst finishes first appeared in 1958, placing more importance on the quality of the maple used for the guitar’s top. The 2019 Les Paul Traditional goes above and beyond in the tonewood department with a resplendent AA-grade figured maple top, ensuring that the guitar looks every bit the top-tier musical instrument that it is.
