Origins of the S2 Series
The PRS S2 (Stevensville 2) was launched in 2013 to offer a Made in USA line of guitars at a more affordable price than the Core Series, while still being manufactured at the Stevensville, Maryland, USA factory.
The concept behind S2 was to streamline certain production steps, such as simpler carved tops and thinner finishes (including Satin), while maintaining the assembly standards and quality control of the Core Series.
Birth of the Vela Model
The PRS S2 Vela was introduced in 2015, designed to stand apart from the standard PRS Custom and Standard models.
Body design: Offset body, giving it a visually striking, unique look that blends vintage style with modern elements.
Name origin: “Vela” comes from Latin, meaning “sail,” and also refers to the Vela constellation.
